MICROBUS/PEUGEOT QUEEN

MICROBUS/PEUGEOT QUEEN

Posté le 05.05.2008 par sablesdegypte
Hi,

Today we shall go for some information on the traveling mode that i have been experimenting lately. Well first it took me a long time to try the MICROBUS or the peugeot collective taxi. I had been reading too much the traveling guides and i was feeling weary about it. But some 2000 km later i am still alive and have not met any problems.
As a fact you have more problems convincing the driver that it is ok to take you on board. You can get a Special which is the same taxi but all for yourself. And the price is still fairly ok.basicly you pay for 8 people.
I have traveled by myself and never met any unpleasantness, well if i exclude this elderly gentleman who after some 100 km was getting younger by the minute....I am no spring chicken myself but i had to tell him to move and stop when my space got reduced to the basic essential to fit my small frame... Grand dad was probably around 70, at least looked it, but even it was not spring yet well.... he was getting some ideas... that's all he got and it was enough.
Now to avoid the police asking questions about your passport and so on, my latest technique is pretending to be asleep, relaxed, unconcerned as a seasoned egyptian traveler would do. the only difference is the the egyptians are never relax when they reach a check point, because if you are not let through it could well delay you for some time... which is the reason why drivers are not pushed to take foreigners. they don't want to waste their time at the numerous check pointS.
It is impossible to predict if you will fly through each and every one of them or if you will have to explain who you are, what you do, where you live and so on. Hazardwise it is the same as any public bus or any other transport.
Driving in egypt is sportive to say the least and yes people do get killed on the road. But i am not here to judge this. And i need to move from one place to another so....
to be continued in a few minutes
