first remember we are in the southern part of the desert but on top of this we are 100 km in land. The last small rain was seen 2 years ago and the last big rain 9 years ago.....

pendanr des années je me suis demandée ce qu'il y avait à l'intérieur de ces montagnes celles qui longent la mer rouge.

je viens d'avoir la chance d'aller voir et c'est tellement surprenant que vous auriez du mal à me croire. donc je vais mettre quelques photos.
Il ne faut pas oublier que nous sommes au sud du desert, à 100 km a l'interieur des terres que la derniere petite pluie est tombée il y a deux ans et que la dernière grosse pluie est tombée il y a neuf ans... et que les puits sont forés at 150 de profondeur pour atteindre la nappe phréatique.

Here it is 10.30 and the sun is shinning, well yesterday was cloudy you could nearly have thought you were in Europe, and it was nearly cold. This reminds me that i should update my weather details....

so today i am standing in for the cyber cafe owner who is going on holiday. Here there is a minority of coptic who are going to celebrate the new year on Jan 7th. So they are all going home as Marsa Alam is not really the home of anyone here. Most people are here to work some weeks on the trot and then go home. Families are split up most of the year. Moral sometime is quite low as they miss their kids, wifes, parents and friends.
They are migrants within their own country.
So I will sub for a couple of days until I also go and face the cold....My arabic will have to show up as I will have to cope... well a mixture of arabic and english and some hand gesture should do the trick.

Other than that, I have discovered that as a foreigner I was taken for an imbecile when I arrived, well i had expected this and doing some checking later and getting some information is gradually making me wiser.... well once more I can dream, can't I?

Ici il est 10.30h et le soleil brile, hier c'était tellement nuageux que l'on se serait cru en europe. D'ailleurs il faudrait que je mette à jour ma météo....

Aujourd'hui je remplace à l'internet café le patron qui part en vacances. Il y a une minorité de coptes ici qui vont célébrez le jour de l'an ortodoxe le 7 janvier. Donc ils rentrent tous dans leurs familles car ici peu de gens vivent en famille. La plus part sont là pour travailler et rentret au bout de plusieurs semaines chez eux. Les familles vivent séparées la majeure partie du temps. Par moment le moral est en vrille car leurs gosses, femmes, parents et amis leurs manquent terriblement. Ils sont des migrants dans leur propre pays.
Donc pour quelques jours je vais assurer l'ouverture du cyber café avant d'aller voir comment il fait froid en europe... Et mon arabe va devoir assurer car va falloir se debrouiller. ba un mélange d'arabe d'anglais et de mime devrait faire l'affaire....

Sinon j'ai découvert qu'à mon arrivée on m'a un peu prise pour une andouille, ce à quoi je m'attendais mais la collecte d'infos me permet de me rendre compte à quel point .... donc j'apprends.... peut être un jour la sagesse... je rêve encore....

thanks for your note and for the compliment.... well my english is not too bad...for a french person... no offense to anyone, it has been my livelyhood for a long time and may well be again.
And being called "mate" brought a lbroad smile onto my face, has been quite a time i'd heard this one.
for the cold versus hot water, well here it is winter and 20° is not enough for a cold shower, well not for me anyway. I am getting to be like everyone i wear a jumper during the day and wrap up in the evening....I will suffer greatly in january when I go for a short spell to france...just to think about it makes me shiver....

I hope and would like to whish you all a great xmas, here the xmas trees are far and few in between, I mean they are scrony little plastic items (made in china) with some lights trying there best to shine. Personnaly I will stick with the sun shine as xmas decoration, also it doesn't need to be located and pulled out of the cupboard, it put itself out every night, the bulbes don't fail you regularly at the picture of the day time,and furthermore it doesn't have to be taken down 6 months later, well some of us are a bit slow to tidy up or very early for the next year, lets say I was usualy early...
so I am blissfully happy with my frozen chicken leg and pasta (saves the washing up) and I plan to spend part of xmas day playing with the nemos....or clown fishes.

merci de ton message et du compliment... mon englais n'est pas trop mauvais.. pour une française..; je ne veux vexer personne, celà a été mon gagnepain pendant de longues années et ça pourrait bin l'être à nouveau.
et d'être apellée "pote" m'a bien fait rire, ça fait bien longtemps que je n'avais pas entendu cette expression.
Quand à eau froide ou eau chaude, ben ici c'est l'hiver et 20° n'est pas suffisant pour prendre une douche froide, pas moi en tout cas. Je suis comme tout le monde ici, j'ai un pull sur le dos pendant la journée et le soir j'enfile la polaire....je vais souffrir le martyre en janvier pendant mon court séjour en france. rien que d'y penser j'en ai des frissons partout.


j'espère et je voudrais vous souhaitez un exellent noel. ici les arbres de noel sont assez rares, Ce que je veux dire c'est que ce sont des petits machin made in chinea, version plastic tout maigreavec quelques lumieres qui s'echinent à briller. Perso je garde le soleil pour ma deco de noel, elle a l'avantage de ne pas devoir être retrouver au fond du placard, elle s'eteint toute seule le soir, et les ampoules ne vous laissent pas tomber au moment cruciale de la photo et surtout elle n'a pas besoin d'être ranger 6 mois plus tard. Certains d'entre nous sont un peu lents ou alors super en avance, moi je penche pour le super en avance....
Donc tout est tout comme il faut, maon pilon de poulet congelé et mes nouilles feront un exellent repas de noel (economise la vaisselle) et je prévois d'aller faire des bisous aux nemos ou poissons clowns pour le 25 decembre, chacun son arbre....

Aujourd'hui est un grand jour, je viens de gagner mon combat avec la plomberie égyptienne !!!! Elle a du sentir que j'étais fâchée et que j'allais tout démonter, robinets et tuyaux...que j'en avais marre de n'avoir qu'un filet d'eau, plustôt des goutelettes pour être hônnete. La douche chaude était hors de question quand à la froide suis pas fan. quand à laver ma tignasse un cauchemard, bouilloires d'eau chaude dans l'évier de la cuisine....


Hier j'en ai eu marre de demander au BAWAB ou concierge de me régler le problem d'eau chaude... je suis allée enquêter sur le toit , voir les citernes. Ici l'eau arrive par camion citerne et verser dans un réservoir dans le sol et puis pompé jusqu'aux citernes sur le toit.

Me voilà partie sur le toit pour découvrir le pourquoi du comment de ce manque d'eau, parfois eau chaude parfois eau froide.. Grimpette de l'échelle appuyée sur la citerne en espèrant ne pas me vautrer et surprise les citernes sont toutes pleines et vu le nombre de tuyau qui entrent et sortent des citernes impossible de savoir quel est le coupable ....
Dégringolade des escaliers pour mettre ma pompe en route, retour en accelerer pour découvrir où pompe ma pompe, choux blanc je n'en sais rien de plus.... Donc Sherlock en a conclu que j'avait une bulle d'air dans la tuyauterie...
2nergique je vais aller acheter une clé "mourtare" de plombier et je demonte tout ce matin.... mais avant urgence lessive car vu le peu d'eau je reculais la lessive pour des jours meilleurs et là magique !!!!

Souvenez vous j'ai une machine à laver avec deux tambours et je remplis le tambour avec un tuyau type arrosage fixé sur un robinet, enfin fixé est pas le terme exact, enfourné serait plus appropié mais ça tient...
et pendant que mon tambour se remplit j'ai entendu des crachouillis et gargouillis dans la tuyauterie et bonheur l'eau est apparue aux robinets.

Et moi qui économisais l'eau, je m'en suis crée d'autres j'ai économisé c'est sur mais c'est plus des economie c'est la penurie !!!!! et ce matin je me suis faite un plaisir immense d'une douche chaude qui a durée super longtemps.... juste pour le plaisir de faire couler l'eau sur ma pomme......

Today is a very important day I won my battle with the egyptian plumbing !!!! Probably it felt I was prepared to take apart taps and pipes as I had more than enough of a vague trickle of water, well drops would have been a fairer description, so trying to take a hot shower was just out of question, and a cold one well I am not a fan...... and washing my mope was a nightmare. Kettles of hot water pour over the kitchen sink.....

So yesterday tired of asking the BAWAB or caretaker about having some hot water...I investigated the roof for the water tanks. Here water is brought in by water trucks and then pourred into a large ground tank and then pump up to smaller tanks located on the roof...

Here I went yesterday to find out why I had never any water... sometime cold or hot...
so I climbed the ladder leaning against the tank, hoping this dam thing would not slip.... and all tanks were full, so many pipes are going in and out of the tanks it is impossible for me to know which is mine. So back down to run the pump, ran back up to see where the water was going, well found nothing.....so Sherlock deceided that if the tanks were full and I have no water... I have an air lock somewhere.
So I had decided that that was it, I was getting myself a "mooftar" or spanner to dismantle the plumbing... but before urgently i neede to wash some clothes... not having water I had left the washing for better days and here is the magic

Remember I have a twin tub washing machine and I fill the drum with a hose itself connected to a tap, well connected is a big word, the hose is shoved onto the tap but it holds....
and during rthe filling i heared spitting and chocking into the pipe..... and bliss water came back to my taps.

and me who was trying to save water made my problems worse, the more I saved the less I had..... so this morning I took a really long hot shower.....just for the peasure of feeling the water running...............

to climb the low hill in the desert to take a picture when you are wearing flip-flops !!! i checked, it is not a good idea. a rock came loose and rolled down, the only obstacle was me, and on loose groung for reason beyond my understanding flip-flops always let you down, they run away on you, they are the most ungrateful things, you look after them, you take them on trips, on holiday and now My ankle is looking a sorry sight, what an idiot!!!

J'ai testé, une grosse pierre s'est détachée et a dévalé la pente et le seul obstacle c'était moi. et sur terrain meuble pour une raison que j'ignore les tongs vous abandonnent lâchement quand vous en avez besoin le plus. Aucune gratitude à attendre, vous vous les chouchoutez, vous les emmenez en vacances et voilà ma cheville fait une sale tête, quelle nunuche je fais!!!

Myself no, i am facing this excrutiating reality, plates, knives (my folding knife is the only sharp tool in this place) and so on will have to be cleaned there and then. What happens if you delay. Well you find yourself sharing you living space with hundreds of little but very efficient flatmates.
And I don't like sharing with too many !!!! so i clean !!!

Cette question s'auto répond à moins que vous n'ayez un amour passionnel pour les petites bestioles ou/et que vous ne vouliez inventer la fourmi-laveuse.
Moi pas trop donc la brutale réalité est donc que couteau (singulier car mon opinel est le seul outil qui coupe dans cet appart, scout toujour...!!)assiettes ... doivent être lavées toute suite. Que se passe-t-il si vous tardez? Le partage immédiat de votre espace vitale avec une multitude de petites mais efficaces co-locataires.
et je ne suis pas partageuse, pas avec autant !!! donc je lave !!!
